Interface.ai in San Francisco is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to set architectural direction for our core platform and own outcomes across multiple engineering streams. You’ll work directly with leadership and ship high‑impact systems, mentoring engineers and shaping product velocity.

You’ll design scalable, AI‑driven architectures, drive multi‑modal APIs, real‑time event systems, and ensure reliability while working in‑person in SF, 5 days a week. 8+ years in software and CS degree required.

Qualifications

• BS/BA in Computer Science required; MS/PhD in CS or AI a plus.
• 8+ years of software engineering with proven technical direction.
• Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript and Python; strong JavaScript across the stack.

Responsibilities

• Define and own the technical architecture of interface.ai's platform — multi‑modal APIs, real‑time event systems, AI orchestration layers, and data infrastructure.
• Lead cross‑functional technical initiatives: decompose product bets into engineering roadmaps and drive resolution when issues arise.
• Architect scalable, production-grade AI and conversational systems with LLM integration, retrieval pipelines, and tool‑use orchestration.
• Establish engineering standards to scale from 30 to 300 engineers: contracts, models, deployment, observability, reliability.
