Amplitude is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to dive deep into Nova, Amplitude’s OLAP engine, spanning query planning, columnar storage, and distributed compute. You will shape architecture, drive performance, and mentor engineers across a team of about ten.

The role emphasizes building scalable systems, reducing infrastructure costs, and improving reliability, while collaborating with product and data teams to deliver measurable customer value.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of industry experience in backend or infrastructure engineering.
• Hands-on experience building or extending analytical/OLAP systems or similar.
• Proficiency with cloud infrastructure and modern data tooling.

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve Nova's query engine and compute layer for high-throughput workloads.
• Drive cost and performance optimizations across compute, storage, and network.
• Improve reliability and operational excellence with guardrails and observability.
