Blitzy in Cambridge, MA is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to own high-leverage technical work across backend, infrastructure, and AI surfaces. You’ll report to the CTO, shape architectural direction, and work with our founding team on the toughest problems in the system.

This hands-on role keeps you close to the code, requires credible architectural decisions, and demands engineering excellence across platforms. You’ll mentor others and drive outcomes that matter to customers.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including Python, Terraform, and AWS.
• Proven track record leading technical initiatives and architectural decisions across systems.
• Backend expertise with Node.js, NuxtJS, Express.js, or Python.
• Experience with cloud platforms including AWS, GCP, Azure, or Vercel.
• Strong languages: Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, C++, or Go.
• RPC/API expertise: REST, gRPC, GraphQL; databases like SQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Firebase.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture and roadmap for core platform areas, balancing speed, quality, security, and scalability.
• Write, review, and ship production code driving meaningful customer outcomes and set coding standards.
• Leverage Generative AI tools daily to improve quality, speed, and cross-team impact.
• Serve as escalation point for complex production issues, drive postmortems and fixes.
• Promote better SDLC practices and operational efficiency across the org.
• Build demos, prototypes, and technical content to enable adoption of new tech.
• Collaborate with engineers, design, sales, and stakeholders in an in-person setting.
• Communicate decisions clearly and seek feedback to align the team.
• Mentor engineers and unblock colleagues, modeling sound technical judgment.
• Identify and resolve systemic issues like debt or bottlenecks before blockers.
