Job summary

Intuit is seeking a Staff Software Engineer (Backend) to help build enterprise‑scale QuickBooks Capital & Lending systems in Mountain View. You will work on Java/Kotlin, Spring Boot, REST services, and cloud tech to deliver robust platforms for customers.

You will lead designs, mentor engineers, and drive end‑to‑end delivery with a strong focus on performance and scale. Excellent communication and agile practices are essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing and developing online SaaS backend applications.
• Strong leadership, meetings, cross‑functional collaboration and mentoring.
• BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Expertise in Java/J2EE, SQL, AWS and backend technologies; SDLC mastery.
• 5+ years building and consuming web services via REST or SOAP.
• Excellent communication for technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Proven architectural design, TDD, and strong team leadership.
• Experience handling on‑call duties and production incidents at scale.

Responsibilities

We are looking for an engineer with a background in back-end web technologies (Java/Kotlin, Spring, REST services, etc.)

Responsibilities

• Architecting and developing online web applications, prototypes, or proofs of concepts (POCs)


• Leading the gathering of functional requirements, developing technical specifications, and project & test planning


• Acting as the technical subject matter expert: Mentoring fellow engineers, demonstrating technical expertise, and leading a small team solving challenging programming and design problems


• Roughly 40-60% hands-on coding. Rest focused on System design, operational excellence and coaching/mentoring junior engineers.


• Generate technical documentation and PowerPoint presentations to communicate architectural and design options, and educate development teams and business users


• Resolve defects/bugs during QA testing, pre-production, production, and post-release patches


• Work cross-functionally with various Intuit teams including product management, QA/QE, various product lines, and/or business units to drive forward results


• Demonstrate a passion for developing well architected, elegant, web and/or mobile apps


• Experience with Agile Development, SCRUM, or Extreme Programming methodologies

Qualifications

• 8+ years experience designing and developing online SaaS applications (Backend).


• Strong leadership experience: Leading meetings, presenting, technical go to person, and cross-functional leader


• BS/MS in computer science or equivalent work experience


• Expertise with the following: Java/J2EE, SQL, AWS and other backend development technologies. Proficient with AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude or Codex)


• Expertise with the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)


• 5+ years experience with web services (consuming or creating) with REST or SOAP


• Excellent communication skills: Demonstrated ability to explain complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences


• Expertise in the Software design/architecture process


• Expertise with unit testing & Test Driven Development (TDD)


• Business Acumen - strategic thinking & strategy development


• Building strong teams - set and evangelize vision, facilitative leadership, attract and retain key talent


• Experience in handling On-call responsibilities & production incidents for large scale, high throughput SaaS applications. Be a proponent of building systems for performance and scale.
