Job summary

Intuit's QuickBooks Capital & Lending platform team is seeking a Staff Software Engineer (Backend) to build enterprise-scale software using Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, AWS, Elasticsearch, and Kafka for QuickBooks customers. The role blends hands-on coding (40-60%) with system design, mentoring engineers, and leading cross-functional work across product, QA/QE, and business units.

Qualifications

• 8+ years experience designing and developing online SaaS applications (Backend).
• Strong leadership experience: Leading meetings, presenting, technical go to person, and cross-functional leader
• BS/MS in computer science or equivalent work experience
• Expertise with Java/J2EE, SQL, AWS and other backend development technologies. Proficient with AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude or Codex)
• Expertise with the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
• 5+ years experience with web services (REST or SOAP)
• Excellent communication skills: explain complex technical issues to technical and non-technical audiences
• Expertise in Software design/architecture
• Expertise with unit testing & Test Driven Development (TDD)
• Business acumen - strategic thinking & strategy development
• Building strong teams - vision, facilitative leadership, talent retention
• Experience handling On-call responsibilities & production incidents for large scale SaaS apps

Responsibilities

Overview

Come join the QuickBooks Capital & Lending platform team as a Staff Software Engineer (Backend). You will join an innovative and passionate team of engineers using cutting edge technologies like Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, AWS, Elastic Search, Kafka, to build enterprise scale software for our QuickBooks customers. We are looking for an engineer with a background in back-end web technologies (Java/Kotlin, Spring, REST services, etc.)

Responsibilities

• Architecting and developing online web applications, prototypes, or proofs of concepts (POCs)
• Leading the gathering of functional requirements, developing technical specifications, and project & test planning
• Acting as the technical subject matter expert: Mentoring fellow engineers, demonstrating technical expertise, and leading a small team solving challenging programming and design problems
• Roughly 40-60% hands-on coding. Rest focused on System design, operational excellence and coaching/mentoring junior engineers.
• Generate technical documentation and PowerPoint presentations to communicate architectural and design options, and educate development teams and business users
• Resolve defects/bugs during QA testing, pre-production, production, and post-release patches
