Job summary

Visa is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the VCS Platform & Acceptance team to design and deliver scalable back-end services, REST APIs, and event-driven architectures. This hybrid role emphasizes GenAI-first practices, architectural leadership, and high-quality, reliable platforms for global commercial payments.

You will mentor junior engineers, guide AI-enhanced design and testing, and collaborate with stakeholders to meet business goals in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD.
• Strong hands-on experience with REST APIs, gRPC, J2EE, JDBC, JMS
• Strong hands-on experience with Spring, Spring Batch, Spring Boot, WebFlux, and Vert.x
• Experience in building Generative AI applications, conversational AI, RAG architectures, techniques and libraries
• Experience designing and building backend services, microservices, and distributed systems
• Strong experience with event-driven architecture
• Strong understanding of architecture and operations of highly available and scalable applications
• Strong experience with Agile development and CI/CD using GIT, Maven, Jenkins, Chef, Sonar, JUnit
• Strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle
• Strong ability to understand and write simple and complex SQL

Responsibilities

VCS Platform & Acceptance is part of the Visa Commercial Solutions technology organization and is responsible for building and enhancing Virtual Cards, payables, acceptance platforms, and Commercial B2B product capabilities. The team develops modern, scalable software platforms that support global commercial payment experiences.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will provide strong hands-on technical leadership in the design and development of modern software platforms and services. You will help solve complex business problems through scalable technical solutions and guide engineering execution across architecture, implementation quality, reliability, and operational excellence.
This role requires a strong GenAI-first attitude. You are expected not only to use GenAI, LLMs, copilots, and agentic engineering tools in your own work, but also to guide the team on best practices for using AI to improve design quality, coding efficiency, testing effectiveness, troubleshooting, and delivery outcomes.

Information for US Applicants

For roles located in the US, the estimated salary range for this position is $131,600.00 to $210,300.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity. Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.
