About the role

We are looking for a Staff Software Development Engineer to help us build a new financial technology platform. We seek individuals who operate like owners, love to learn, have grit, and operate with integrity and empathy. We encourage applications from candidates with diverse experiences and perspectives.

Note: Our work environment is hybrid in Seattle/Bellevue unless specified otherwise.

What you will be doing

1. Translate user and business needs into maintainable, scalable, and well-documented code.
2. Define the technical strategy, scope, and execution plan for major workstreams or complex problems.
3. Address ambiguous technical challenges and lead them to successful solutions.
4. Champion innovation by identifying new technologies and solutions.
5. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members.
6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop scalable and secure architectures.
7. Influence design and planning decisions across teams with competing priorities.
8. Manage broad technical areas requiring deep expertise and complex relationship navigation.
9. Participate in code reviews to ensure quality, security, and standards adherence.
10. Participate in on-call rotations and handle production issues from analysis to resolution.

What you will need

• Bachelor's in CS or equivalent, with 5+ years of experience.
• Proficiency in at least one modern development language (e.g., Java, Python, Go).
• Ability to analyze complex problems and architect solutions.
• Experience leading projects from design to production, maintaining high standards.
• Expertise in areas relevant to our platform (fintech, distributed systems, databases, security, front-end).

Added bonus if you have

• 10+ years of relevant experience or a combination of experience and advanced education.
• Leadership and mentorship experience.
• History of leading impactful technical initiatives.
• Experience scaling engineering teams.
• Experience with live on-call and 24/7 operations.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Familiarity with Git and CI/CD practices.
• Understanding of security best practices.
