Job summary

Walmart is seeking a Staff Engineer in Hoboken, NJ to set architectural direction across multiple teams. You will own highly scalable, distributed systems, mentor senior engineers, and partner with product leadership to deliver on the business roadmap.

You will drive reliability, performance, and modernization initiatives, working in a cloud-first environment with Azure and Cosmos DB, and collaborating with global teams to enable Walmart’s eCommerce Fulfillment platform.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience with microservices and distributed systems at scale.
• Strong architectural and design skills across multiple teams.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical architecture and roadmap for a critical platform domain spanning multiple services and teams.
• Lead design and implementation of highly available, fault-tolerant, distributed, event-driven systems (Java-based) at Walmart scale.
• Drive cross-team architecture decisions and document tradeoffs on availability, consistency, latency, and cost.
• Identify and eliminate systemic reliability, scalability, and performance risks before incidents occur.
• Mentor Senior Engineers and raise the quality bar via reviews and best practices.
• Translate ambiguous business problems into executable technical strategy and milestones.
