Northrop Grumman is seeking a Staff Software Engineer / System Architect to lead the architecture, design, and technical direction of complex distributed software systems for the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS) Engagement Operations in Huntsville, Alabama.

The role requires extensive Java and C++ expertise, strong systems engineering background, and the ability to mentor engineers while collaborating across systems, software, test, and operations teams to meet mission needs and drive

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related STEM discipline; 10+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 8+ years.
Active DoD Secret security clearance required; ability to obtain higher clearance as needed.
Extensive hands-on software development in Java and C++.
Experience designing and implementing complex distributed software systems.
Strong background in system architecture, including decomposition, data/interface modeling, and trade studies.
Experience with software integration and testing in DoD environments.
Experience supporting IAMD or comparable DoD/CCS systems.
Engagement Operations experience including planning, scheduling, threat evaluation, and sensor management.
Experience translating operational concepts into architectural decisions.

Responsibilities

Lead architecture and staff-level design for IBCS Engagement Operations software.
Define, evolve, and maintain architectures for complex distributed mission systems.
Lead requirements analysis, allocation, and traceability from mission needs to software components.
Develop architecture artifacts, system views, data models, and ICDs.
Perform architectural trade studies balancing capability, performance, cost, schedule, and risk.
Partner with systems and software teams to define interfaces, data flows, and integration patterns.
Guide implementation teams on Java and C++ design patterns and integration approaches.
Support integration and testing by defining configurations and troubleshooting issues.
Lead technical reviews and present decisions to leadership and customers.
Translate CONOPS into architectural decisions and system capabilities.
Mentor junior engineers to foster architectural discipline.
