Your Impact

You are a Staff Site Reliability Engineer with experience running large-scale cloud applications. You will collaborate with other staff and senior engineers to shape and drive the technical direction for the organization and products. Your strong system design skills will aid you in taking a holistic approach to ensuring our products are bulletproof and fault-tolerant, while meeting demanding interactivity and responsiveness requirements. Your customer-obsession leads you to join forces with product and engineering to deliver innovative solutions to key customer problems.

Working closely with senior site reliability engineers across teams to review their designs and steer them toward more reliable and sustainable outcomes makes you a force multiplier for your team and the teams around you. You are a great collaborator and coach, and will mentor our next set of engineering leaders. You foster a friendly, open, introspective culture that encourages everyone to speak their mind and avoid red tape, unnecessary rituals, bureaucracy and politics. As a senior technical contributor, you have a passion for technology, and keep abreast of the latest trends, frameworks, and tools. As a technical leader, you advise our senior leadership on technical strategy for the org, while balancing our business and engineering priorities to help determine the right long-term initiatives and investments.

What You'll Do

Location: Boston - preferred
Direct Reports: None
  • Set a high technical bar for the team through deep technical insights and architecture design reviews
  • Work across teams in Product and Engineering to enable bring new services to life
  • Perform design, code, and process reviews to improve individual systems as well as engineering-wide
  • Drive and advocate for and apply best practices when it comes to availability, scalability, operational excellence, and efficiency
  • Mentoring members of your team and across the group,
  • Incident Management, coordinating internal communication and driving post incident actions
What You Bring
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering
  • Experience designing and delivering high-availability, secure and scalable cloud-based systems
  • Deep skill in driving technical solutions across multiple teams and leading teams to reduce manual toil
  • Experience of building and operating public cloud hosted services on Azure or AWS, using Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code tools.
  • Strong experience with relational and NoSQL databases, such as SQL Server and Cassandra
  • Strong working knowledge of Linux based systems and knowledge of at least one development language, Python, Go or equivalent
  • You have a track record of setting the technical and organizational direction for a growing engineering team across multiple global locations

The Pay: Axon is a total compensation company, meaning compensation is made up of base pay, bonus, and stock awards. The starting base pay for this role is between USD 161,250 in the lowest geographic market and USD 258,000 in the highest geographic market. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: level, function, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, geographic market, and often a combination of all these factors.
