Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) is hiring a Staff Engineer, Security Automation to anchor automation across the security org. The role focuses on AI-native tooling, LLM-augmented workflows, and centralized data to enable the small security team to operate at scale.

You will partner with Security Engineering, Incident Response, SecOps, IT, and ASG to stitch the security stack into a single, actionable view. In-office presence is required two days a week in San Francisco.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of security engineering experience with automation and tool-building
• Builder mindset with production-quality security tooling and Python
• Broad security fundamentals across cloud security, detection engineering, identity, and vulnerability management
• Hands-on experience building with LLMs or AI APIs
• Understanding AI security risks: prompt injection and data exfiltration
• Translating technical security concepts for non-technical audiences
• Low ego, high empathy, and cross-team collaboration

Responsibilities

• Use AI as a first-class building block—LLM-augmented analysis and automations
• Build a unified system integrating SIEM, vulnerability scans, EDR, identity, and data models
• Create dashboards and frameworks consolidating asset inventory and risk posture
• Tackle large-scale automation challenges like vulnerability management and access reviews
• Enhance team leverage with AI through reusable tooling and patterns
