Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle is seeking a Staff Scientist to apply AI methods to biomedical studies, integrating high-dimensional clinical data with outcomes to improve cancer care. The role will be mentored by senior researchers and interface with clinical and laboratory investigators in prostate cancer and bioinformatics.

The Data Science Lab delivers NIH-backed education and develops scalable tools, pipelines, and synthetic cohorts for translational research.

Qualifications

• PhD and/or MD in biomedical sciences, epidemiology, biostatistics, statistics, computer science, ML, or related field.
• Creative, thoughtful, and collaborative.
• Familiarity with Python, R, R packages, and RMarkdown.
• Experience with version control using GitHub.
• Willingness to learn new informatics content.
• Careful writer and diligent editor.
• Experience with statistics and machine learning.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research independently and contribute to team projects.
• Assist in project development, design, and management with staff.
• Develop new statistical models using public and investigator data.
• Write R packages or Shiny Apps for method implementation.
• Apply AI/ML tools (Python, R) to test biomedical hypotheses.
• Develop, refine, and benchmark computational pipelines with ML/DL.
• Perform analytical validation studies for precision and reproducibility.
• Support translational studies with clinicians and partners.
• Other duties as assigned.
