Job summary

H2M architects + engineers is seeking an Industrial Hygiene professional in Melville, NY to perform asbestos surveys, mold assessments, water testing, and general environmental health evaluations for clients across sectors.

You will review site plans, document findings, and support regulatory compliance while coordinating with project teams. A Bachelor's in Environmental Science and up to 4 years in environmental consulting are desired; strong communication and MS Office skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or related field.
  • 0–4 years in environmental consulting, industrial hygiene.
  • Preferred asbestos/mold certifications listed (NYS DOL, NYC DEP, EPA, etc).
  • Strong communication skills and Microsoft Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Perform asbestos and/or mold surveys on residential and commercial buildings.
  • Provide asbestos project monitoring and air sampling with on-site protocols.
  • Analyze data, tabulate results, review data, and prepare reports.
  • Assist with lead and indoor air quality testing.
  • Communicate project updates clearly with clients and the project team.

Job description

H2M's Industrial Hygiene team helps clients identify, evaluate, and manage environmental and occupational health hazards. From assessing asbestos, chemicals, lead, mold, and other contaminants to supporting regulatory compliance, our scientists and technicians deliver practical solutions that promote safe and healthy environments.

In this role, you will be responsible for sampling, testing and inspections for asbestos surveys, water and mold damage assessments, reviewing and understanding site plans, completing asbestos and mold inspections for insurance companies, private industries, and school districts. Assistance with other environmental hazard surveys such as lead and indoor air quality assessments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform asbestos and/or mold surveys on residential and commercial buildings.
  • Providing asbestos project monitoring and air sampling, including compliance with on-site field protocols such as chain of custody forms and daily logs.
  • Analysis tabulation, analysis review/ evaluation and report writing.
  • Assistance with lead and other indoor air quality testing.
  • Follow clear instructions and communicate project updates and/or relevant information with project team and with clients professionally.
  • Able to work as part of a team and collaborate often.
  • Prior experience dealing with contractors and ensuring compliance with state and city agencies, a plus.
Education & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree, required with a focus in Environmental Science or related discipline desired.
  • 0 to 4 years of experience in the environmental consulting field, specifically industrial hygiene.
  • The following current certifications are preferred and will be taken into consideration in conjunction with relevant professional experience:
  • Asbestos Certifications (NYS DOL), Asbestos Inspector, Asbestos Air Sampling Technician, Asbestos Project Monitor, Asbestos Project Designer, Asbestos Certifications (NYC DEP), Asbestos Investigator, Mold Certifications (NYS DOL), Mold Assessor, Lead Certifications (USEPA), Lead-Based Paint Inspector, Lead-Based Paint Risk Assessor, and IICRC certifications, a plus
  • Strong technical skills including field expertise and knowledge of architectural drawings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Additional Requirements
  • As part of your role, you may be required to work in environments where the use of a respirator is necessary. In such cases, H2M will provide appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure compliance with all applicable safety and health regulations. Therefore, you will be required to participate in any necessary respirator fit testing, training, and medical evaluations in accordance with OSHA standards and company policy.
  • Travel is required for this position, and you may be required to use your own vehicle for work related travel including travel to and from job sites if an H2M vehicle is not available.
  • Due to the nature of the position, it is expected that you are able to work a flexible schedule which may include nights, weekends and holidays, as needed.
  • The salary range for this role is $58,000 - $80,000 annually.
