Job summary

Matrix New World Engineering, part of True Environmental, is seeking an experienced Industrial Hygiene Technician to support asbestos, lead, and mold project assignments in the New York metro area. You will perform air monitoring, IAQ investigations, and site health & safety inspections.

Responsibilities include collecting bulk samples, preparing reports, coordinating with managers and subcontractors, and developing scopes of work to keep project schedules on track.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in asbestos, lead paint, IAQ, water intrusion/mold, or related IH work.
• Strong written and spoken communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and DOT drug testing.

Responsibilities

We are currently seeking an experienced Industrial Hygiene Technician to participate in asbestos, lead, mold and universal waste project related assignments in the New York metro area.

What you’ll do

• Performing air monitoring for asbestos abatement, lead and mold remediation activities
• Investigating indoor air quality and related water intrusion events
• Conducting job site health & safety inspections
• Performing routine site inspections, collecting bulk samples and creating reports according to applicable State and Federal protocols
• Develop reports, memos, addendums as required for project management review, to document site conditions and project-related issues
• Interacting with management, contractors & sub-contractors, coordinating site meetings, developing scopes of work and implementing project schedules, as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma required
• Minimum of 2 years of experience preferred in performing asbestos, lead paint, IAQ, water intrusion/mold, general industrial hygiene, and facility-related abatement project monitoring and inspections
• Good oral and written communication skills
• A combination of the following certifications:
• EPA AHERA / NYSDOL Asbestos Inspector, Project Designer, Project Monitor and Air Sampling Technician, NYSDOL Mold Assessor, NJ/EPA/NY Lead Risk Assessor/Inspector and/or NYCDEP Asbestos Investigator
• Working knowledge of MS Office software (Word, Excel, Adobe, etc.)
• Knowledge of applicable OSHA, EPA, and state regulations for asbestos, lead paint, etc
• Must be willing to travel to and from job sites within the NY area
• Must be able to pass a physical exam and be medically cleared to wear negative pressure respirator
• Must be available to occasionally work night or weekend hours may and/or extended shifts beyond 8 hours
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
• Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and will be subject to DOT-regulated random drug & alcohol testing

Preferred Qualifications

• AS or BS in physical sciences or industrial hygiene, safety, environmental sciences, or related science or engineering fields preferred, but not required
• Additional asbestos accreditations preferred: Management Planner /Supervisor/Project Designer
• OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER
• Experience performing other IH-related work and non-IH environmental work
• Experience performing health and safety oversight
• Experience in construction management
