Job summary

Third Wave Automation seeks a Staff Safety Engineer to be the primary authority on system safety and compliance for autonomous robotics. You will craft innovative, standards-aligned architectures and own end-to-end certification across hardware, software, and cybersecurity.

Reporting to the CEO, you’ll lead with autonomy in a high-growth startup environment. You will influence industry standards, collaborate with product and field teams, and push safety beyond boilerplate compliance while

Qualifications

10+ years of hands-on safety engineering in robotics/autonomous systems/industrial automation.
Deep knowledge of OSHA regulations and core autonomy standards (IEC 61508, ISO 13849, ISO/SAE 21434).
Able to challenge engineering assumptions and propose innovative safety solutions.

Responsibilities

Architect the safety system in collaboration with Product and Engineering leaders.
Represent the company on national and international standards committees.
Lead certification processes for complex autonomous systems across hardware, software, and cybersecurity.
Leverage AI tools to improve research, documentation, and hazard analysis.
Elevate internal EHS protocols and training to ensure best safety practices.
