Job summary

Komodo Health is seeking a Staff-level IC to design, build, and scale Burrow, the engine behind our Healthcare Map, using Rust and related tools. You will set technical direction and collaborate with Product, Platform, and Labs@Komodo to deliver scalable data solutions.

You’ll mentor engineers, drive multi-quarter initiatives, and ensure performance, reliability, and cost efficiency at enterprise scale. Open to remote or hybrid work with hubs in San Francisco, New York, and Chicago.

Qualifications

• Deep experience with high-performance systems code in Rust or alternatives.
• Strong knowledge of analytical engines, indexing, pruning, and low-latency serving.
• Proven ability to design data models, serving patterns, and complex architectures for large data environments.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize Burrow's distributed query execution, indexing, and storage layers.
• Design APIs and serving patterns for AI-powered products and agents.
• Build high-performance data processing and serving patterns across large healthcare datasets.
• Extend Burrow to include provider-level data and new analytics types.
• Collaborate with upstream data teams and Marmot to deliver APIs and queries.
• Lead multi-quarter architecture decisions and mentor engineers.
• Define data quality checks, observability, and reliability practices.
• Drive engineering excellence, documentation, testing, and CI/CD across teams.
