Job description

We're partnering with a technology company building high-performance software where speed, reliability and engineering quality are critical.

Rust is at the heart of their engineering, and they're looking for an experienced engineer who enjoys tackling complex technical problems and building systems designed to perform at scale.

About the Role

This isn't a role where you'll simply pick up tickets and write code.

You'll have the opportunity to take ownership of performance-critical systems, solve challenging problems around concurrency, scalability and reliability, and influence the technical decisions that shape the platform.

From designing new features to optimising existing infrastructure, you'll be involved throughout the development lifecycle, with the freedom to make meaningful engineering decisions.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop and maintain high-performance backend services using Rust.
  • Build reliable, scalable systems capable of handling complex workloads.
  • Solve challenging problems involving concurrency, asynchronous programming, memory efficiency and performance optimisation.
  • Design and develop APIs, services and supporting backend infrastructure.
  • Improve system performance, reliability and maintainability as the platform scales.
  • Collaborate with engineers on system architecture, technical decisions and code reviews.
  • Own features throughout the development lifecycle, from initial design through to deployment and production support.
Required Skills
  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, with hands-on experience building production systems using Rust.
  • Good understanding of concurrency, asynchronous programming and performance optimisation.
  • Experience designing and maintaining scalable, reliable production systems.
  • Familiarity with APIs, databases and modern cloud infrastructure.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make thoughtful engineering decisions.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaborating within a remote engineering team.
Preferred Skills
  • Distributed systems or high-throughput infrastructure.
  • Tokio, Axum, Actix Web or other Rust ecosystem technologies.
  • AWS, GCP, Kubernetes or containerised environments.
  • Experience with Go, C++ or other systems programming languages.
  • Performance profiling, benchmarking and low-level optimisation.
