Job summary

SearchApi is hiring a Staff Product Engineer (Ruby on Rails) to become the technical backbone of the product. You will own the hardest PRs, raise the bar for the codebase, and eventually alleviate load from the CEO.

This hands-on, high-trust role ships production code across the entire product, including billing, API, dashboard, and enterprise features. You will work directly with the CEO/CTO in a remote-only, async-first environment, shaping technical direction and improving patterns.

Qualifications

• Senior-level Ruby on Rails experience is required.
• Strong code review and mentoring skills.
• Experience shipping production-grade features and optimizing performance.

Responsibilities

• Own the hardest PRs and critical refactors with senior judgment.
• Review peers' PRs to raise quality and catch issues pre-merge.
• Build enterprise features (SAML, SCIM, audit logs, permissions).
• Work on billing and payments, including Stripe integrations.
• Create and iterate on product features and developer experience.
• Develop in-house algorithms and data processing components.
• Debug and optimize performance with profiling and tuning.
