Job summary

Capstan Medical Inc. in Santa Cruz, CA is seeking a Staff Robotics Software Engineer to help build a groundbreaking robotic platform for transcatheter valve deployment.

You will design and implement high-performance C++ software for real-time robotic control and coordinate multi-axis systems with EtherCAT. You’ll work with DDS middleware, ROS experience preferred, and lead motor controller integration, translating clinical needs into robust software with deterministic scheduling.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or equivalent.
• 8+ years of hands-on robotics or embedded systems development.
• Experience shipping complex robotic systems to production and safety-critical domains.
• Ability to work in a hybrid onsite role (Santa Cruz, CA) 3 days/week.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement high-performance C++ software for real-time robotic control.
• Architect EtherCAT-based distributed control for multi-axis robots.
• Utilize DDS middleware for low-latency inter-process communication.
• Optimize real-time performance in safety-critical contexts.
• Lead motor controller integration from driver to application level.
• Translate clinical needs into design requirements and develop testable prototypes.
• Develop real time or non-real time software supporting safe procedures.
• Align work with company goals and address high-risk items.
• Document work through design reviews and release docs.
• Identify gaps and pitch solutions to meet team goals.
