Job summary

Agility Robotics is seeking a Staff Robotics Software Engineer to architect and scale the production-quality software foundation for Digit’s real-world manipulation tasks. You will own end-to-end software architecture for data collection and teleoperation, partnering with AI, controls, and hardware teams.

The role emphasizes low-latency, scalable systems, performance optimization, and future-proof design across hardware and software interfaces.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering for robotics, real-time systems, or highly complex hardware-software integrations.
  • Exceptional software architecture skills, with a proven ability to design and build scalable, low-latency systems from scratch without foundational missteps.
  • Demonstrated track record of operating as a highly autonomous, independent executor capable of delivering reliable, production-quality software.
  • Experience designing low-latency communication and streaming systems for real-time applications.
  • Strong systems intuition with the ability to trace and debug performance issues across complex software, networking, and hardware boundaries.
  • Demonstrated experience in modern C++ or Rust, with a strong track record of building and optimizing low-latency, real-time systems (Python proficiency is a strong plus).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to partner effectively with internal customers (AI, controls, and hardware teams) to translate requirements into robust software.

Responsibilities

  • Architect from the Ground Up: Own the end-to-end software architecture of our data collection and teleoperation systems, ensuring modular, scalable and predictable behavior.
  • Optimize for Performance: Real-time robot execution through optimized control, streaming, and communications paths with tight latency targets.
  • Design for the Future: Anticipate hardware, sensing, and end-effector changes and design adaptable software without requiring rewrites.
  • Drive Validation & Reliability: Develop validation strategies across simulation and hardware, including benchmarks, fault handling, and regression testing.
  • Data-Driven Iteration: Analyze telemetry and demonstrations to improve operator efficiency, system responsiveness and task success rates.
