Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH, is seeking a registered nurse to support patients through their episode of care with a strong emphasis on safety and quality. A BSN is preferred, or ADN with commitment to obtain BSN within 5 years, and an active Ohio RN license.

The role is on-site, 40 hours per week with rotating shifts and an on-call requirement, including a 30-minute response time for on-call. Collaboration with LPNs, PCAs, and allied staff is essential.

Qualifications

  • Current Ohio nursing license (RN).
  • BSN preferred; ADN with commitment to obtain BSN within 5 years.
  • CPR certification required; willingness to obtain and maintain NRP, PALS, ACLS, or other certifications as determined by manager.

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care using a Family Centered approach.
  • Assesses individualized patient needs and communicates care priorities to LPNs, PCAs, Unit Coordinators, and Allied Health staff.
  • Plans, implements, educates and evaluates care using Evidence-Based Practices.
  • Utilizes Therapeutic Communication to monitor physical, psychological, and social needs of patients and families.
  • Participates in workplace community activities, data collection/auditing, quality improvement, and reports updates back to staff.
  • Documents per organizational standards, policies, and procedures.

Job Description Summary

Assists patients to move rapidly, uneventfully, and as effectively as possible through their episode of care while maintaining quality and safety as a priority. Delegates, directs, oversees and provides developmentally appropriate patient care. Practices professional nursing and promotes patient advocacy in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and maintains a current Ohio Nursing License.

Essential Functions:
  • Provides nursing care using a Family Centered approach.
  • Assesses individualized patient needs. Communicates patient care needs and priorities to assigned Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Patient Care Assistants (PCAs), Unit Coordinators, and Allied Health personnel.
  • Plans, implements, educates and evaluates care using Evidence-Based Practices.
  • Utilizes Therapeutic Communication while monitoring the physical, psychological, and social needs of patients and families.
  • Engages in the \"workplace community\" by staying aware of changes, participating in data collection or auditing, understanding Quality Improvement, and representing staff at relevant meetings and then reporting important information and updates back to staff.
  • Documents according to organizational standards, policies, and procedures.
Education Requirement

BSN; Associate degree with commitment to obtain BSN within 5 years of hire.

Licensure Requirement

Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio.

Certifications

Current CPR certification required. Must be willing to obtain and maintain NRP, PALS, ACLS, APHON or other necessary certification as determined by your manager based on business unit.
