Job summary

Waymo is seeking a PhD or Masters-level researcher to own the data recipe for Foundation Model pre-training and post-training, and to lead science on clustering, filtering, deduplication, and large-scale data mining for Waymo's driving data.

You will tech-lead a team of research engineers, integrate cutting-edge findings from the broader community, and collaborate with engineering and research partners to accelerate data-centric evaluation and post-training best practices across Waymo's

Qualifications

• You have a PhD or Masters in Computer Science, ML, Robotics, or a closely related field with 3+ years of research experience in Data-centric AI, RL or Foundation Models.
• You have demonstrated original contributions through publications, blogs or open-source work.
• You are proficient with ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow).

Responsibilities

• Own the data recipe for Waymo's Foundation Model pre-training and post-training.
• Lead science on clustering, filtering, de-duplication, long-tail data mining, memorization, etc.
• Tech-lead a team of research engineers to build the data flywheel for Waymo's data.
• Integrate emerging research for rigorous ablations and data techniques.
• Engage with the wider research community on data-centric evaluation creation.
• Partner with engineering/research teams to share data recipes and best practices.
