DeepMind in Mountain View is seeking a Staff Research Scientist/Engineer focused on agentic post-training, deep learning, and large language models to advance core modeling and evaluation pipelines.

The role involves designing experiments, running ablations, documenting results, and building research infrastructure. Applicants should have extensive experience in AI research and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software development.
• 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
• 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
• Experience with large language model, reinforcement learning, and deep learning.

Responsibilities

• Specialize in core modeling and post-training experience. Drive the research process for large-scale agent post-training from hypothesis formulation to delivery.
• Design and execute ablation studies to validate research hypotheses and accelerate experimental feedback loops.
• Communicate research findings, progress, and outcomes to the broader team through visualizations and reports.
• Develop research infrastructure and utilities for data analysis and model evaluations using standard engineering practices.
• Collaborate with other research scientists and engineers to maintain a regular feedback and communication loop.
