We have an immediate opening for an exceptional and meticulous research technician and lab manager in a neuroscience laboratory at the epicenter of cancer research on the Mission Bay campus at UCSF!
Research in the Oldham lab ( https://oldhamlab.ucsf.edu ) focuses on understanding the cellular and molecular organization of the developing and adult human brain in health and disease. We use a combination of cutting-edge experimental techniques and computational approaches to identify and characterize patterns of gene activity in disparate cell types, and to relate these patterns to functional and pathological processes, with a particular emphasis on adult malignant gliomas. We are also highly involved in software development.
Primary responsibilities for the Staff Research Associate I/II (SRA I/II) will include performing laboratory experiments as assigned and providing technical support for studies performed in the laboratory, including training. Experiments will involve tissue sectioning, nucleic acid isolation and quality control, multiomic bulk and single-nucleus NGS library preparation, single-nucleus analysis, histology, and cell culture. Some experiments will require use of liquid handling robots, which may involve development / modification of Python scripts. Secondary responsibilities include ordering equipment and supplies to provision and maintain the laboratory for efficient day-to-day operation, providing support for the preparation of research approvals to ensure institutional compliance, organizing and maintaining chemical and lab equipment inventories, preparing reagents and buffers, maintaining lab equipment, ensuring compliance with written protocols and common laboratory space safety procedures. Numerous opportunities will exist to engage in collaborations within and beyond UCSF, provide mentorship to trainees, present work, and participate in publications.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $26.00 - $31.04 (Hourly Rate).
