JOB SUMMARY
The House Supervisor at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for providing effective leadership, managing nursing units, and ensuring adequate staffing levels. They act as a clinical resource for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, respond to clinical emergencies, and collaborate with the transfer center to assign patients to nursing units. As a supervisor, this role oversees and guides a team of employees to ensure efficient task completion, promoting teamwork and effective coordination.

JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Leadership: Demonstrates effective leadership skills and serves as a role model for staff and peers.
  2. Management: Organizes and manages nursing service activities of each nursing unit within the main unit in compliance with the medical plan of care. Coordinates with Transfer Center regarding appropriate assignment of patients to nursing units.
  3. Supervision: Responsible for evaluating work performance of nursing service employees in terms of patient care, unit relations, and efficiency of service.
  4. Training: Assures adequately trained staff for safe and effective care working in conjunction with the staffing office and nurse managers.
  5. Budget: Considers budgetary staffing allowances when making staffing assignments.
  6. Clinical: Functions as a clinical resource person for pediatric and adolescent patients. Provides a variety of clinical functions/nursing skills to adult and geriatric patients. Responds to codes and other clinical emergencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Associate's Degree of Science in Nursing - Required
  • Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing - Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must be licensed as an RN in the state of Mississippi - Upon Hire - Required
  • ACLS - Upon Hire - Required
  • PALS - Upon Hire - Required
  • Must have current CPR certification - Upon Hire - Required

Work Experience

  • 4-6 years of experience in area of supervision (3-5 years preferred) - Preferred

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Must maintain current knowledge of nursing standards of practice, regulatory and accrediting agencies - Required
  • Must meet continuing education requirements - Required
  • Must maintain knowledge and resources necessary to provide age appropriate care for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients - Required
  • Supervises staffing of nursing personnel on each nursing unit for each tour of duty - Required
  • Supervises, evaluates work performance and conducts yearly performance appraisals of assigned group of Resource Pool employees - Required
  • Directs/implements nursing plan of care - Required
  • Collaborates with Transfer Center and unit charge nurses to determine appropriate bed assignments - Required
  • Directs the bed assignments during periods of high census and bed alerts - Required
  • Attends nursing management meetings to discuss operation, need, and programs for improvement - Required
  • Must complete all required leadership classes - Required
  • Serves on committees as appointed by Vice President or Director - Required
  • Directs communication effectively with all personnel of nursing units - Required
  • Must be able to adjust to and demonstrate effective leadership within a rapidly changing healthcare environment - Required
  • The incumbent has routine contact with physicians, ancillary personnel, other nursing personnel, patients, family and visitors - Required
  • The incumbent must demonstrate effective interpersonal skills to all customers/co-workers in all aspects of patients care and job performance - Required
