Job Summary:
Kaiser Permanente nurses are guided by an integrated nursing model that places patients and families at the center. The Staff Registered Nurse (RN) III practices professional nursing as defined by the Georgia Registered Professional Nurse Practice Act, organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines. Provides nursing care for patients, members, and families to promote or restore health and prevent illness and injury. Collaborates with the Healthcare Team (HCT) and leaders to ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe, effective, and efficient care.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Utilizes the nursing process to assess patient health status, determine nursing diagnosis, establish nursing goals, and develop, implement, and evaluate the nursing plan of care.
- Completes POE and addresses care gaps during patient encounters.
- Accurately documents patient data, actions, interventions, and responses to treatment according to policies and guidelines.
- Assists with procedures and monitors patients' responses during and after procedures.
- Participates actively as a member of the healthcare team, engaging patients, families, and caregivers in care coordination.
- Leads nursing responses to medical emergencies.
- Monitors electronic messaging and emails (department InBasket) related to patient or provider requests, managing or triaging messages as needed.
- Initiates and monitors IV therapy, medication administration, and other nursing procedures as prescribed, documenting accordingly.
- Assesses health education needs of patients and families, provides education and counseling, and evaluates effectiveness.
- Conducts follow-up calls to patients for ongoing care and preventive outreach.
- Participates in quality improvement activities and initiatives.
- Contributes to departmental orientation, training, and competency validation for new staff.
- Leads performance improvement initiatives focused on access, quality, service, and staff development.
- Performs procedures autonomously under provider supervision, evaluating patient responses.
- Serves as a preceptor, resource, and mentor for new team members and nursing students.
- Provides at least one training in-service annually.
- Completes relevant continuing education.
- Utilizes advanced skills for patient care, education, and consultation.
- Performs specialized procedures under physician supervision, such as cardiac stress tests, RN sonography, conscious sedation, or chemotherapy infusions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum three (3) years of current RN clinical experience.
- Minimum two (2) years of clinical experience in the area of specialty.
Education
- Associates degree in nursing.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
License, Certification, Registration
- Registered Professional Nurse License (Georgia) required at hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association required at hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required at hire.
Additional Requirements:
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) at hire or within 6 months.
- Biotherapy/Chemotherapy Certification for Infusion Services.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Specialty Certification at hire or within 1 year.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
