Job summary

RINA, a global knowledge company, is seeking a Staff Railroad Engineer to join our Rail & Transit team in the United States. This role supports track design and civil design for freight, passenger, and transit rail projects, with opportunities to work on Class I railroads and public agency interfaces.

Based in Houston, TX or Chicago/Lisle, IL, you will collaborate with senior engineers and project managers, perform design calculations, and contribute to design deliverables across preliminary to

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Transport Engineering.
• 2+ years of professional engineering experience in rail, transit, or transportation civil design, with direct experience in track design.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) / Engineering Intern (EI) certification.
• Proficiency with Bentley OpenRail Designer (MicroStation/InRoads/OpenRoads) and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

• Develop horizontal and vertical track alignments per AREMA and agency standards.
• Prepare track layouts for mainline, yard, siding, and industry tracks with turnout and crossover placement.
• Support Corridor improvement projects for dual-use Passenger and Freight Railroads.
• Produce design deliverables at 30/60/90/100% milestones (PS&E).
• Collaborate across disciplines and support multi-agency coordination.
