Job summary

Google Quantum AI is seeking software engineers to advance quantum error correction and practical quantum software. You will design, implement, and optimize decoders, APIs, and tooling while collaborating with researchers and hardware teams to enable live QEC experiments.

You will mentor junior engineers, drive roadmaps, and contribute to the mission of building scalable fault-tolerant quantum computers. In-person interviews are typical.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of software development experience using C++ or Python with knowledge of data structures.
• Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing algorithms for compute- or performance-critical problems.
• Experience in systems-level programming, code optimization, or high-performance computing.
• Experience leading technical design, defining architectures/APIs, and mentoring juniors.

Responsibilities

• Propose, implement, and evaluate novel QEC decoding algorithms for superconducting qubits and neutral-atom systems.
• Architect scalable APIs to integrate syndrome decoders with classical software and quantum hardware.
• Collaborate with researchers and engineers to support live QEC experiments on Google’s quantum computers.
• Drive technical strategy and prioritize roadmaps for quantum software initiatives.
• Mentor junior engineers through design reviews and technical guidance.
