Job summary

OpenEd in the United States is hiring a Staff Product Engineer to tackle the toughest problems across the stack. You’ll set direction, own outcomes of mission critical systems, and work with the CTO on long-term engineering strategy.

You’ll mentor the team and build scalable automations to drive the company’s education platform. You'll design financial, enrollment, and data flows; guard student PII; and push back when plans are not optimal.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years building software including ownership of outcomes at fast-growing companies.
  • Deep in TypeScript, React, Next.js and Node with PostgreSQL schema design and performance.
  • Designed and shipped cross-team systems—payments, ledgers, workflows, integrations.
  • Clear communicator; explain complex ideas to non-technical audiences.
  • Bias for action; ownership and accountability in delivery.
  • Interest in AI, exploring its use in developer workflows without losing control.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design of mission critical systems with the most risk: wallets and ledgers, enrollment lifecycle, reimbursement reviews, and flows that move money and student records.
  • Identify and tackle cross-cutting problems with no clear owner.
  • Set engineering standards; lead design and code reviews; improve team output.
  • Own data modeling and system design; ensure robust data models.
  • Own reliability: define SLIs/SLOs, build monitors, incident response, blameless postmortems.
  • Build the factory lines; automate checks, reviews, reports, rollouts, data fixes, docs.
  • Guard student PII and company funds: FERPA, audits; partner with Security and Legal.
  • Mentor engineers; grow judgment, not just output.
  • Represent engineering with Product and leadership; push back when plans are wrong.
