Hi, I’m Abhik, Ashby’s Co-Founder and VP of Engineering. We’re looking for a versatile, persistent product engineer who builds reusable components across the stack and advocates for time and space to do so. Engineers ship features end-to-end at a high pace. You’ll be our guide and have room to do your best work. If that speaks to you, read on.
What Ashby offers in return is a blend of early and growth-stage environments. You write product specs, make product and design decisions, and work in a low-meeting culture while enjoying product-market fit and scale with tens of thousands of daily users dependent on your software.
We work with notable customers like Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake. We have best-in-class growth and retention metrics among peers, and more details are shared when we meet.
We’re expanding the team to double this year and are transparent in our hiring process. We read every application and aim to respond within 3-4 days, often sooner.
Our engineering culture strives to recreate environments where engineers had ownership and agency. You’ll own a large portion of one product end-to-end, researching competitors, writing product specs, wireframes, and more. Examples of what product engineers at Ashby have delivered include:
Automated interview scheduling to optimize times from a pool of interviewers using a responsive web app.
A generalized declarative filter architecture that supports complex filters and SQL generation in the backend.
An in-app signing offers feature, built from customer insights through to final integration.
We aim to provide engineers with tooling that improves their effectiveness. Scheduling final rounds, minimizing unnecessary meetings, and giving TA teams powerful, intelligent software is a focus. We emphasize tooling that is high-quality, with ownership by engineers.
We avoid LeetCode-style interviews and focus on practical assessment through collaborative problem solving and design discussions.
We value engineers who tackle the full technology stack, handle ambiguity between product and technical aspects, balance speed and quality, and are eager to grow. We seek collaborators who communicate clearly and own their projects.
Three rounds (plus an optional recruiter screen):
Introduction call with Hiring Manager (15–30 minutes, live)
Technical screen in our codebase (1 hour, live)
Three non-coding interviews focused on product thinking, technical design, and infrastructure (about 3 hours total, live or split across days)
Hiring manager will prep you for interviews. Expect 4–6 engineering interactions, with 5–15 minutes for questions. If we do not extend an offer, we will provide feedback.
Onboarding is designed to be exceptional. You’ll set up your dev environment with a single script, push a first product change on day one, and progressively take on more impactful work. A 30/60/90-day review will help calibrate on how we work together, with peer support and team-led training sessions.
TypeScript (frontend and backend), React, GraphQL API, Node.js, Postgres, Redis. We value fundamentals and quick learning over specific prior experience in the exact stack.
Ashby is committed to equal employment opportunities and a diverse, inclusive workforce. Compensation range: $190K - $275K.
