Job summary

OpenAI’s Youth team is hiring a staff-level product designer to shape how young people safely engage with AI and support K–12 education experiences. You’ll craft age-appropriate safety systems and learning tools, pairing exceptional interaction and visual design with deep product thinking.

You’ll work across early exploration to concrete direction, partnering with product, engineering, research, safety, policy, and design to establish durable patterns for a space still being defined.

Qualifications

• Exceptional interaction design and visual craft
• Deep product thinking and systems thinking
• Leadership in ambiguous/zero-to-one product areas
• Ability to balance user needs with safety and institutional constraints

Responsibilities

• Establish high craft standards across youth and education experiences
• Lead end-to-end design for age-appropriate safety and learning products
• Design age-appropriate experiences for safety, age assurance, and high-trust interactions
• Shape zero-to-one K–12 experiences across districts, educators, classrooms, and collaboration workflows
• Turn ideas into concepts, prototypes, and high-fidelity product experiences
• Collaborate with research, engineering, product, safety, policy, and design
• Conduct research with users and partners to understand needs of young people, educators, institutions
• Develop reusable patterns and principles for coherence across youth and education products
