Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

The Design Systems team is dedicated to empowering product teams at Stripe by providing the tools and resources needed to deliver exceptional user experiences. This team collaborates closely with Product Designers, Engineers, and Product Managers to create a cohesive design and engineering platform that enhances usability and consistency, enabling teams to build faster and with greater confidence. By partnering with cross-functional teams, they define design principles, guidelines, patterns, and components, ensuring that every user interaction reflects our identity and values.

What you’ll do

We are looking for a Staff Product Designer to enhance Sail, our design system at Stripe. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting our designers and engineers in creating outstanding and consistent user experiences across all our platforms.

You will bridge the gap between design and engineering, helping to shape the quality and usability of Stripe products. By collaborating with various teams, you will not only improve the foundation of our design system but also introduce new components, patterns, and tools. Your contributions will be essential in elevating the standard of user experiences at Stripe, ensuring that our products remain intuitive and user-friendly. You will also have the opportunity to mentor other designers and share best practices and system updates, promoting a culture of continuous improvement within the design team.

Responsibilities
  • Proactively connect business ideas to product
  • Be a leader and drive product initiatives across teams.
  • Set and exemplify a deep commitment to craft & product excellence.
  • Design reusable components and patterns that align with Stripe’s design principles.
  • Prototype components and reusable end-to-end experiences, contribute to design system repositories, and support engineering efforts.
  • Create and maintain clear, comprehensive documentation to enable teams across the organization to adopt and extend the design system effectively.
  • Work in a highly collaborative fashion with other designers, product teams, stakeholders and leaders to shape, define, and align on company strategy and roadmaps
  • Create and maintain shared UI libraries, patterns, and templates in Figma.
  • Facilitate training sessions to educate and onboard teams using the design system.
  • Advocate for accessibility in all aspects of the design system.
Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements
  • 10+ years relevant design experience at a product-driven tech company.
  • Ability to operate independently at a high altitude to turn ambiguous, complex, horizontal problems into concrete visions (in partnership with cross-functional. stakeholders) that bring together multiple team strategies.
  • Strong skills in visual design, interaction design, and prototyping demonstrated through a portfolio of work.
  • Experience collaborating closely with engineering teams.
  • Comfortable presenting work to company leadership regularly.
  • Experience leading and communicating changes and updates to a design system to audiences that include designers, engineers, and product experts.
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience working on design systems at scale, including creating and managing shared libraries, templates, and tokens in Figma.
  • Understanding of accessibility standards (e.g. WCAG).
  • Familiarity with design tokens, version control systems (e.g. GIT), and tools for maintaining design system documentation.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and system concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Passion for mentoring and educating teams on leveraging design systems to improve workflow efficiency and consistency.
A remote location, in most cases, is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently or plan to live.

The annual US base salary range for this role is $188,100 - $282,100. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.

Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.
