The Role

We are looking for a dedicated Privacy Engineer to advance the privacy of our Customer Identity products, data, and infrastructure. This role is integral to our Privacy team within the Customer Identity product unit, collaborating across functions to address data privacy challenges and support global growth.

This engineering-focused team develops privacy technology software and implements controls to mitigate privacy risks. You will work with a global team of engineers passionate about data privacy and solving complex problems at scale.

This position involves close collaboration with Product Engineering, Data Engineering, and Legal teams to execute Okta's data privacy strategies.

Responsibilities

1. Partner with Engineering, Legal, Data, and Product teams to embed privacy best practices and proactively identify risks.
2. Develop new privacy features, tools, and scalable solutions to enhance privacy engineering efforts.
3. Foster a community of data stewards supporting privacy initiatives.
4. Coordinate with Privacy Engineering leadership on planning and priorities.
5. Build and maintain scalable privacy infrastructure for customer identity products.
6. Assist with privacy investigations, root cause analysis, and remediation efforts in partnership with Legal and Compliance teams.

What this position is not

• Security engineering, incident response, or compliance-focused roles.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on experience developing microservices with Golang.
• 3+ years of experience in privacy or security reviews, design recommendations, and trade-off analysis.
• Knowledge of database principles (SQL, noSQL, DBT).
• Experience with privacy automation, impact assessments, data inventory, and data protection techniques.
• Strong communication skills.
• Experience working remotely with a distributed team.

Bonus Points

• Experience with full-stack engineering, data pipelines, Kafka, protocol buffers, IAM, governance, GDPR, CCPA, cloud privacy (AWS, Azure), Snowflake, MongoDB, among others.

Salary range for California, Colorado, New York, Washington: $168,000 — $252,000 USD. Actual salary depends on skills, experience, and location. Benefits include health, dental, vision, 401(k), and more. Details at https://rewards.okta.com/us.
