The Role


We are looking for a knowledgeable, development-focused Privacy Engineer to elevate the privacy of our Customer Identity products, data, and infrastructure. This key member of the Privacy team, embedded within the Customer Identity product unit, collaborates across functions to address data privacy challenges supporting our global Customer Identity business. Our engineering team aims to develop innovative privacy technology and implement controls to mitigate privacy threats. You will work with a distributed team of engineers passionate about data privacy and solving complex scale problems.


This role involves close collaboration with Product Engineering, Data Engineering, and Legal teams to execute data privacy strategies for Okta's customer identity solutions.

Responsibilities:


  • Partner with Engineering, Legal, Data, and Product teams to embed technical privacy practices in all deliverables and proactively identify risks.
  • Contribute to developing new privacy features, tools, and scalable solutions to support privacy initiatives for stakeholders.
  • Foster a community of data stewards supporting privacy engineering efforts.
  • Coordinate with Privacy Engineering leadership on planning, prioritization, and progress tracking.
  • Build, deploy, and maintain scalable infrastructure and privacy solutions for customer identity products.
  • Assist with privacy investigations alongside Legal and Compliance teams, including root cause analysis and remediation.

What this position is not:

  • Security engineering, incident response, code reviews, or compliance-focused roles.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of hands-on development experience with microservices in Golang.
  • 3+ years of experience conducting privacy or security reviews, recommending design patterns, and assessing trade-offs.
  • Working knowledge of database principles, including SQL, noSQL, and DBT.
  • Experience with privacy automation, impact assessments, data inventory, user data protection, encryption, anonymization, and pseudonymization.
  • Strong communication skills and experience working with remote, distributed teams.

Bonus points if you have experience with:

  • Full-stack engineering, data pipelines, Kafka, protocol buffers, identity and access management, governance, GDPR, CCPA, cloud privacy (AWS, Azure), Snowflake, MongoDB.

Salary range for candidates in California, Colorado, New York, and Washington: $168,000—$252,000 USD, depending on skills, experience, and location.
