Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC in Washington, DC is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to build and scale enterprise-grade PAM infrastructure. You will lead backend services in Go/Java/C++, design cloud-based solutions on AWS, and mentor juniors while driving FedRAMP-compliant initiatives.

You’ll collaborate with architects, security, and product teams to deliver scalable, multi-tenant systems, implement CI/CD pipelines, and improve observability and reliability across the platform.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of programming experience in Go, Java, or C++, backend focus (Go preferred).
  • 4+ years with PostgreSQL or equivalent relational DBs; schema design and query optimization.
  • Strong drive to help company scale tech with rapid delivery.
  • Solid grasp of CS fundamentals: data structures & algorithms.
  • Experience with IaC, observability, secrets management, CI/CD, secure coding, and compliance.
  • Deep understanding of REST APIs and building/integrating them.
  • Experience with AWS, Redis, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, Kinesis, Kafka, and Docker.
  • Knowledge of network security, authentication, and authorization.
  • Strong commitment to software engineering best practices and Agile.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage AI pair-programmers to accelerate secure PAM product development.
  • Contribute to FedRAMP initiatives as a core engineer.
  • Design, develop, and deliver cloud-based infrastructure on a modern stack (Kubernetes/EKS, RDS, DynamoDB, Kinesis, Redis, OpenSearch, Docker, Terraform on AWS).
  • Drive evaluation, development, and rollout of microservices.
  • Operate, support, and scale shared services and frameworks as usage grows.
  • Scale systems to meet future business needs and requirements.
  • Lead design and code reviews for scalable, multi-tenant systems with strong tests.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve services and frameworks owned by the team.
  • Provide mentorship to junior developers; collaborate with architects, QA, product, security.

We're looking for a Staff level Platform Engineer to join a team of highly skilled and talented team players who are proud of what they own and deliver. What you’ll do
  • Leverage cutting-edge AI pair-programmers and LLMs (such as Copilot and Claude) to accelerate the development of secure, enterprise-grade Privileged Access Management (PAM) products
  • Act as a core contributor to the company’s FedRAMP initiative
  • Work with engineering teams to design, develop and deliver cloud-based infrastructure projects on a modern tech stack (Kubernetes/EKS, RDS, DynamoDB, Kinesis, MKS, Redis, OpenSearch, Docker, Terraform on AWS)
  • Drive evaluation, development, and rollout of microservices
  • Operate, support, and upgrade shared services and frameworks. Scale these as their usage invariably grows along with the company's business
  • Evaluate and scale existing systems to meet specialized requirements and support the company’s future business needs
  • Lead design and code reviews to ensure systems are scalable, redundant, and multi-tenant. high programming standards by writing unit and functional tests
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and fix services and frameworks the team owns
  • Evaluate system performance and resolve bottlenecks
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers
  • Collaborate with architects, QA, product owners, security and operations engineers
What you’ll bring
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent; master's preferred
  • 7+ years of extensive programming experience in modern programming languages like Go, Java, or C++ especially in backend services. Go is preferred.
  • 4+ years experience working with PostgreSQL or equivalent relational database systems. Experience with designing and querying databases with optimization in mind is a plus
  • Immense passion for doing the right thing to help the company's technology stay ahead of its anticipated business growth
  • Solid technical grasp of architecting, implementing, tuning, and debugging some of the largest cloud deployments in the enterprise world
  • A good understanding of computer science fundamentals such as data structures and algorithms
  • Experience with fundamental Cloud building blocks like IaC, Observability, Secrets Management, CI / CD pipelines, secure coding practices, and compliance
  • Deep understanding of REST APIs and proven experience building and integrating them
  • Experience with AWS, Redis, Elasticsearch / OpenSearch, Kinesis, Kafka, and Docker
  • Knowledge of network security, authentication, and authorization
  • Strong commitment to, and experience with, software engineering best practices
  • Familiarity with Agile software development process

The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is between:

$194,000—$267,000 USD

Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in California (excluding San Francisco Bay Area), Colorado, Illinois, New York and Washington. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, the company offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies.
