Job summary

Avyanna Technologies is seeking an experienced Platform Engineer/DevSecOps lead to design and evolve internal platform capabilities supporting the ATT program for the U.S. Department of Education.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve internal platform capabilities to improve delivery speed, deployment safety, test execution, and reliability across teams.
• Build and maintain infrastructure automation, CI/CD pipelines, environment patterns, secure provisioning, monitoring, alerting, and release controls.
• Standardize observability, environment consistency, testing integrations, and release controls across applications.
• Create self-service platform capabilities, reusable templates, starter repositories, configuration patterns, and automation that reduce operational toil.
• Integrate enterprise testing tooling with source control, CI/CD, observability, issue tracking, reporting, and standards-enforcement mechanisms.
• Act as a hands-on platform leader who establishes standards, drives adoption, troubleshoots complex issues, and prevents fragmentation across teams.
• Serve as a platform and DevSecOps technical lead for CI/CD integration, environment consistency, observability, release controls, secure provisioning, and reusable self-service capabilities.
• Contribute platform architecture, tooling, dashboard, transition, and operational documentation required for ATT deliverables and Government reviews.

Job Description

Design and evolve the internal platform capabilities, automation, delivery pipelines, environments, observability, and self-service patterns that enable FSA application teams to adopt enterprise automated testing safely and consistently. This position supports Avyanna Technologies' work with the U.S. Department of Education, Federal Student Aid (FSA), Automated Testing Teams (ATT) program. The position is anticipated and contingent upon contract award, funding, and final staffing needs.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve internal platform capabilities that improve delivery speed, deployment safety, test execution, and reliability across multiple teams.
• Build and maintain infrastructure automation, CI/CD pipelines, environment patterns, secure provisioning, monitoring, alerting, and release controls.
• Standardize observability, environment consistency, testing integrations, and release controls across applications.
• Create self-service platform capabilities, reusable templates, starter repositories, configuration patterns, and automation that reduce operational toil and direct-support dependency.
• Integrate enterprise testing tooling with source control, CI/CD, observability, issue tracking, reporting, and standards-enforcement mechanisms.
• Act as a hands-on platform leader who establishes standards, drives adoption, troubleshoots complex issues, and prevents fragmentation across teams.
• Serve as a platform and DevSecOps technical lead for CI/CD integration, environment consistency, observability, release controls, secure provisioning, and reusable self-service capabilities.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 8+ years of relevant professional experience aligned to the responsibilities and technical scope of this role.
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience may be considered.
• Demonstrated experience designing and evolving internal platforms that improve delivery speed, deployment safety, and reliability across teams.
• Deep expertise in infrastructure automation, delivery pipelines, environment design, and secure provisioning for mission-critical systems.
• Proven ability to standardize observability, environment consistency, and release controls across multiple applications.
• Experience reducing operational toil by building self-service platform capabilities and reusable engineering patterns.
• Demonstrated ability to act as a hands-on platform leader who sets standards, drives adoption, and prevents fragmentation across teams.
• Deliver measurable outcomes in complex environments: proven ability to take ownership and deliver high-quality results where priorities, requirements, and system constraints evolve.
• Collaborate effectively across disciplines: demonstrated success working cross-functionally with engineering, product, design, security, and other stakeholders to achieve shared objectives.
• Communicate complex concepts with clarity: ability to clearly document, present, and explain technical and non-technical work, including tradeoffs, risks, and implementation considerations, to diverse audiences.
• Operate effectively in large-scale, mission-critical systems: demonstrated contributions to building, operating, or modernizing large-scale systems with high standards of reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Maintain a strong end-user orientation: consistently considers the impact of decisions on end users and system stakeholders, including when working on backend, data, platform, or infrastructure components.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain the federal background investigation and suitability determination required for the position, including Public Trust eligibility.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience supporting federal or other large-scale public-sector technology programs is preferred.
• Experience with infrastructure automation, CI/CD, observability, secure provisioning, GitLab, Datadog, and reusable self-service platform patterns is preferred.
• Relevant cloud, platform engineering, security, or DevSecOps certifications are preferred.

Location

Primarily remote. Ad hoc onsite work may be required at FSA in Washington, DC based on project needs.

Salary Range

$145,000-$150,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, qualifications, technical expertise, contractual requirements, and internal equity.
