Job summary

Avyanna Technologies is seeking an experienced software engineer to design, build, and maintain secure, accessible web applications for high-volume workflows. You will integrate frontend experiences with backend services, APIs, automated tests, and production operations in an Agile setting.

The role emphasizes end-to-end delivery, strong release discipline, and collaboration across product, security, design, and QA teams. Primarily remote with possible onsite needs at client facilities.

Job Description:

Build secure, responsive, accessible applications and testing-platform capabilities end to end, integrating frontend experiences, backend services, APIs, automated tests, and production operations. This position supports Avyanna Technologies' work with the U.S. Department of Education, Federal Student Aid (FSA), Automated Testing Teams (ATT) program. The position is anticipated and contingent upon contract award, funding, and final staffing needs.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and maintain secure and accessible web applications supporting high-volume and sensitive workflows.
• Develop frontend and backend capabilities, including API integrations, state management, performance optimization, and secure session handling.
• Implement reliable end-to-end automated tests and integrate them into delivery pipelines to reduce regressions and improve release confidence.
• Improve user and application-team workflows by reducing friction, errors, manual steps, and avoidable support needs.
• Deliver features end to end through production with disciplined testing, release practices, monitoring, and operational awareness.
• Collaborate with product, platform, QA, security, design, and operations stakeholders in an Agile delivery model.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 8+ years of relevant professional experience aligned to the responsibilities and technical scope of this role.
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience may be considered.
• Demonstrated experience building secure, responsive, and accessible web applications for high-volume users and sensitive workflows.
• Strong frontend and backend skills, including API integration, state management, performance optimization, and secure session handling.
• Hands-on experience implementing end-to-end automated testing to reduce regressions and improve release confidence.
• Proven ability to improve user workflows by reducing friction, error rates, and avoidable support contacts.
• Ability to ship features end to end in production environments with strong release discipline and operational awareness.
• Deliver measurable outcomes in complex environments: proven ability to take ownership and deliver high-quality results where priorities, requirements, and system constraints evolve.
• Collaborate effectively across disciplines: demonstrated success working cross-functionally with engineering, product, design, security, and other stakeholders to achieve shared objectives.
• Communicate complex concepts with clarity: ability to clearly document, present, and explain technical and non-technical work, including tradeoffs, risks, and implementation considerations, to diverse audiences.
• Operate effectively in large-scale, mission-critical systems: demonstrated contributions to building, operating, or modernizing large-scale systems with high standards of reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Maintain a strong end-user orientation: consistently considers the impact of decisions on end users and system stakeholders, including when working on backend, data, platform, or infrastructure components.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain the federal background investigation and suitability determination required for the position, including Public Trust eligibility.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience supporting federal or other large-scale public-sector technology programs is preferred.
• Experience with modern web frameworks, API integration, automated end-to-end testing, CI/CD, accessibility, and secure application delivery is preferred.
• Relevant cloud, software engineering, accessibility, or DevSecOps certifications are preferred.

Location

Primarily remote. Ad hoc onsite work may be required at FSA in Washington, DC based on project needs.

Salary Range

$120,000-$145,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, qualifications, technical expertise, contractual requirements, and internal equity.
