Job summary

C&I is seeking a Staff Piping Designer to contribute to plant design studies, sketches, drawings, and 3D models. You will lead small project teams, coordinate with vendors, and ensure designs meet industry standards and codes.

Field work and travel to sites are expected as needed. The ideal candidate has extensive CAD experience, refinery/chemical industry exposure, and a track record of delivering piping layouts and equipment arrangements.

Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree with CAD specialization and 15+ years of related experience, or a bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program with 13+ years of experience.
• Willingness to travel domestically or internationally up to 10%.
• Must be able to obtain TWIC and pass background checks, and work safely per company/client requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop equipment arrangements using vendor data and design criteria.
• Create piping layouts and 3D models for complex systems from P&ID, specs, and vendor data.
• Gather field information and develop field sketches; occasional plant site work.
• Lead small projects (2–3 person teams) to meet schedules, budgets, and quality.
• Develop piping design scopes, estimates, schedules, and inter-discipline coordination.

C&I is looking for a talented and driven individual to join our team!

About the opportunity: Staff Piping Designer

We are currently seeking a Staff Piping Designer to help us achieve our company mission. The Plant Design team is responsible for preparing studies, sketches, drawings, and models of equipment arrangements and piping layouts as well as performing a variety of computer-based modeling, design, and planning tasks on projects. C&I is a full-service engineering design firm providing engineering/design/project management and procurement services to various clients in oil & gas, food & beverage, and distilled spirits.

Responsibilities include:

• Developing equipment arrangements utilizing vendor data and design criteria.
• Creating piping layouts and 3D models for complex systems independently using P&ID's, pipe specs, EAs, and vendor data, along with a working knowledge of Best Piping Practice/Industry Standards, regulatory standards, codes, and design criteria.
• The Staff Piping Designer gathers field information and develops field sketches. Field work is performed at the plant and will require some climbing, walking, and working in adverse weather conditions.
• The Staff Piping Designer is capable of leading small-sized projects (2-3 person teams) to meet project objectives: schedules, budgets, and quality.
• Developing piping design scopes, effort hour estimates, resource-loaded schedules, vendor print reviews, and inter-discipline coordination
• One of the following combinations of education and experience
• 2-year technical degree with a specialization in computer-aided drafting and design, along with a minimum of 15 years of related experience, or a bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program with 13 years of relevant experience.
• Ability to travel domestically or internationally to offices, vendor shops, and project sites. Travel is expected to be up to 10%
• Must comply with drug-free workplace requirements.
• Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and pass any background checks.
• Performs work in a safe manner in accordance with C&I and client requirements.
• Valid Driver’s License
