C&I Engineering is seeking a Senior Instrumentation Engineer to join our Power & Controls team in Oak Brook, IL. You will design and develop instrumentation and control systems for oil & gas, petrochemical, and other heavy industries, collaborating with multi-discipline teams to meet project objectives.

The role requires a ABET-accredited degree with 8+ years of experience, strong client interfacing, and the ability to travel up to 20%.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree with 8+ years of related work experience.
• Willingness to travel up to 10–20% domestically or internationally.
• TWIC and background checks may be required.
• Drug-free workplace compliance.
• Valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop instrumentation and control systems for oil & gas, petrochemical, food & beverage, and other industrial facilities.
• Perform instrument-engineering calculations, including control valve sizing and flow-element sizing.
• Prepare complete instrumentation design packages with specifications, datasheets, calculations, drawings, and scope-of-work documentation.
• Coordinate instrumentation and controls scope with other disciplines for integrated project execution.
• Interface with clients to obtain information, clarify requirements, resolve design issues, and support project decisions.
• Review deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance with standards.

About the opportunity: Senior Instrumentation Engineer

We are currently seeking a full-time Senior Instrumentation Engineer to help us achieve our company mission. This individual will work in the Power & Controls department with a team to accomplish design goals. C&I is an employee-owned, full-service engineering design firm providing engineering/design/project management and procurement services to various clients. Primarily, C&I serves the industries of oil & gas, food & beverage, and distilled spirits.

Responsibilities include:

• Design and develop instrumentation and control systems for oil & gas, petrochemical, food & beverage, and other industrial facilities in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes, and engineering standards.
• Perform instrument-engineering calculations, including control valve sizing, flow-element sizing, instrument selection, and related process calculations.
• Prepare complete instrumentation engineering design packages, including specifications, datasheets, calculations, drawings, and scope-of-work documentation, ensuring alignment with design intent and client requirements.
• Coordinate instrumentation and controls scope with process, mechanical, electrical, piping, civil, and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated project execution.
• Interface directly with clients to obtain technical information, clarify requirements, resolve design issues, and support project decisions.
• Review engineering deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance with applicable project and industry standards.

Minimum requirements:

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an ABET-accredited engineering program with a minimum of 8 years of related work experience, or a bachelor's degree or higher from an ABET-accredited engineering technology program with 10 years of relevant experience.
• Ability to travel domestically or internationally to offices, vendor shops, and project sites. Travel may be up to 10% to 20%
• Must comply with drug-free workplace requirements.
• Must be able to obtain Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and pass any required background checks.
• Safely performs work in accordance with C&I and client requirements.
• Valid Driver’s License
