Job summary

Dropbox is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to own application performance across the Core org. You will profile, measure, and ship fixes for high-traffic React surfaces, starting with web, then extending to iOS, Android, and desktop. You will lead AI-assisted performance work and set standards impacting hundreds of millions of users.

You will collaborate with backend teams in Python/Go, translate measurement into product impact, and shape long-term engineering strategy within Core Engineering.

Qualifications

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field involving coding or equivalent technical experience
• Minimum of 12 years of software engineering experience with senior-level responsibilities
• Demonstrated experience driving measurable performance improvements in production web applications
• Experience using AI tooling to accelerate performance work and AI-assisted workflows
• Experience leading cross-team technical strategy and architecture
• Experience with consumer-facing products and shipping customer-visible metrics
• Strong written and verbal communication, influencing roadmaps beyond the direct team

Responsibilities

• Profile React surfaces and ship measurable performance improvements
• Lead cross-platform performance initiatives across web, iOS, Android, and desktop
• End-to-end improvements from measurement to production changes
• Build and own measurement, instrumentation and regression-detection systems
• Write production code primarily in JavaScript/React and backend in Python/Go
• Set engineering standards for performance and mentor engineers
• Apply AI tooling to performance work and optimize AI-assisted workflows
• Influence cross-org roadmaps and architectural decisions
