General Motors in Mountain View is seeking an experienced Integrated Circuit Designer who will create and design layouts for integrated circuits and printed circuit boards. The successful candidate will collaborate with various design teams to optimize layouts for performance and manufacturability.
Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and at least ten years of experience in PCB layout, including work with HDI and high-power boards. The role offers a hybrid work model, with 3 days in-office and 2 days remote.
Create and design the physical layout of integrated circuits (ICs) or printed circuit boards (PCBs). Place and route components, traces, and other elements to ensure proper functionality and performance. Create and verify the layout design by conducting design rule checks (DRC) and design for manufacturability (DFM) checks. Ensure that the design meets the required specifications, constraints, and manufacturing capabilities. Create and collaborate closely with other design teams, such as circuit designers, system engineers, and packaging engineers, to understand design requirements and constraints. Work to optimize the layout design for performance, power, area, and manufacturability. Select the appropriate technology and process for the layout design based on the project requirements, such as the target application, performance goals, and manufacturing capabilities. Optimize the layout design for various factors, including signal integrity, power distribution, thermal management, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Ensure that the layout design meets the required performance and reliability criteria. Support ECAD librarians by ensuring development of ECAD library parts meet PCBA Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and GM resiliency requirements. Ensure proper management of PCBA prototype, EVT, and DVT assembly and test at manufacturing contractor. Collaborate with component engineers, procurement, and supply chain teams to select appropriate components for PCBA design. Apply Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to ensure PCBA design is optimized for efficient assembly processes. Work closely with manufacturing and processing engineering teams to optimize PCBA manufacturing processes. Collaborate with test engineers to ensure that PCBA design is testable (Design for Test) and supports efficient testing processes. Create and maintain documentation related to PCBA design guidelines, manufacturing processes, and specifications. Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reduction, and quality enhancement in PCBA manufacturing. Mentor and foster collaboration with other engineers. Hybrid Work Policy – 3 days In-Office, 2 Days Remote – Must be able to report to local office.
