Job summary

Banyan Treatment Centers is opening a new residential facility in Rochester Hills, MI, seeking a qualified Staff Nurse (RN) to support the founding team. The role focuses on direct nursing care in an inpatient substance use and mental health program, including withdrawal management, and acts as a liaison between patients, physicians, and the treatment team.

The position is part-time (20 hours/week) with Monday–Friday 3:30 PM–7:30 PM on-site.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
• Active Michigan RN license.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays.
• Knowledge of withdrawal management protocols and recognizing medical instability.
• Competency in medication administration, documentation, and EHR use.

Responsibilities

• Perform nursing assessments and document admissions within 24 hours.
• Administer medications and provide education on treatments as prescribed.
• Assess medical needs, determine urgency, and initiate interventions or referrals.
• Assist with suicide risk assessments and supervise LPN assessments as needed.
• Transcribe and implement physician orders, including verbal orders, accurately.
• Ensure DEA-compliant medication stocking and ordering with Compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Assessment

• Complete nursing assessments and admission documentation within 24 hours of admission.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and provide medication education.
• Assess medical needs, determine urgency, and initiate interventions, referrals, or emergency response.
• Assess patients for suicide risk and safety concerns and supervise LPN assessments as required.

Provider Orders & Medication Management

• Transcribe and implement physician orders, including verbal orders, accurately and professionally.
• Work with Compliance to order and stock medications in line with DEA requirements.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

• Communicate patient health concerns to the Director of Nursing and Clinical Director.
• Help the treatment team build medical issues into treatment planning.
• Educate patients about health problems and medical care.

Documentation & Compliance

• Document all care in the EHR in line with licensure, accreditation, and organizational standards.
• Protect patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA and Joint Commission standards.

Qualifications

Required

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
• Current, active, and unencumbered Michigan RN license.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Knowledge of withdrawal management protocols and ability to recognize signs of medical instability.
• Competency in medication administration, documentation, and EHR systems.

Preferred

• BSN.
• 1 or more years of nursing experience (2 or more strongly preferred).
• Experience in behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, or a detoxification setting (strongly preferred).
• Knowledge of Joint Commission standards and DEA regulations for controlled substances.
