Job summary

Banyan Treatment Centers is seeking a compassionate and dependable Behavioral Health Technician to join the founding team at our new residential treatment facility in Rochester Hills, Michigan. You will help keep patients safe, engaged, and supported throughout the day, spending more time with patients than almost anyone on the treatment team.

This on-site, full-time role requires calm under pressure, strong rapport-building, and hands-on experience in substance use and mental health treatment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
• Stay professional, empathetic, and composed in high-stress or crisis situations.
• Strong observation, communication, and documentation skills.
• If driving duties: valid driver’s license and Banyan’s Driver Criteria.

Responsibilities

• Supervise patients and living areas; perform scheduled safety checks.
• Respond to crises using de-escalation techniques and suicide-safety procedures.
• Call nursing staff for medical attention and report concerns to the team.
• Offer emotional support and document patient behavior for the care team.
• Take vital signs and perform urine drug screens and pregnancy tests per policy.
• Coordinate group activities and transport patients when driving duties are assigned.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Safety & Support

• Supervise patients and living areas, completing scheduled safety checks throughout the shift.
• Respond to crises using de‑escalation techniques and suicide‑safety procedures.
• Call nursing staff when patients need medical attention and report concerns to the treatment team.
• Offer emotional support, refer clinical issues to therapy staff, and document patient behavior accurately.

Clinical & Program Support

• Take vital signs and complete urine drug screens and pregnancy tests per company policy.
• Supervise self‑administration of medication per physician orders.
• Coordinate group and recreational activities and transport patients when assigned driving duties.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or GED.
• CPR/First Aid certification, or ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to stay professional, empathetic, and composed in high‑stress or crisis situations.
• Strong observation, communication, and documentation skills.
• If assigned driving duties: valid driver's license, Banyan's Qualified Driver Criteria (driving record and insurance eligibility), and completion of the Driver's Safety Course.

Preferred

• Associate's degree or higher.
• 1 or more years of experience in SUD/MH treatment, behavioral healthcare, or health care.
• Experience across levels of care (e.g., detox, residential, PHP).
• Certification in addiction counseling or a related field (e.g., CAC, CADC, CBHT, CPRS), CNA, or other relevant healthcare certification.
• Basic EMR and MAR experience.
• Personal or professional familiarity with the local recovery community.
