Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, University of Chicago Medicine, as a Staff Nurse in the 9N&S MICU department. At UChicago Medicine, we bring the world’s most innovative approaches to patients with all conditions, from common to complex. This department is a 24-bed unit split into two sides, the north and the south, with 12 beds on each side. We are the second-largest unit and have a free-floating charge nurse. MICU is the only inpatient unit with a tier 1 score for employee engagement for three consecutive years. You will have the opportunity to work with physicians who are constantly pushing the bounds of possibility forward, conducting groundbreaking research, and providing lifesaving, personalized patient care.

This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

A staff nurse is a registered professional nurse (RN) who manages patient-centered care that is outcome-directed. Patient-centered care principles and professional nursing practice standards provide the foundation for the nurse to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care provided. The staff nurse assumes primary responsibility and accountability for all patient care personally provided and that provided by those directly under their supervision.

Essential Job Functions

1. Utilizes appropriate assessment skills to determine patient needs.
2. Develops a plan of care for patients whose needs do not require a Case Manager or collaborates with the Case Manager to develop a plan of care for specific patients.
3. Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned by Care Center Director or Patient Care Manager.
4. Provides support to peers by assisting as needed, being a resource person, and working as a team member.
5. Assists Care Center in development and attainment of goals and objectives.
6. Uses clinical pathways and/or plans of care incorporating standards of practice.
7. Assesses own need for professional growth and development and seeks appropriate resources to meet those needs.
8. Attends continuing education programs and participates in program evaluation.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an NLN-accredited School of Nursing
• Associate Degree in Nursing
• Current Illinois RN license
• Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)

Preferred Qualifications

• BSN degree or higher
