Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) II is a professional caregiver responsible for a group of patients during a designated shift. The RN II provides patient care through the nursing process, the environment, instrumentation, and collaboration with the healthcare team.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform ongoing assessments focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and cognitive status, including nutrition, pain, education, family involvement, and advocacy.
- Formulate goal-directed care plans when appropriate.
- Implement care thoroughly, skillfully, and consistently.
- Prioritize patient care based on needs and available resources.
- Identify and meet patient/family learning needs.
- Respect patient/family rights, cultural, and ethical beliefs.
- Coordinate and provide care for patient populations.
- Establish effective relationships with team members, patients, and families.
- Delegate tasks appropriately and evaluate care effectiveness.
- Communicate effectively, following proper channels.
- Apply safety principles and perform efficiently in emergencies.
- Maintain professional responsibility and participate in staff development.
- Understand legal issues, including confidentiality and risk management.
- Participate in quality improvement and research activities.
- Identify and solve problems effectively.
- Demonstrate a service-oriented approach in all interactions.
- Provide data for staffing decisions and adapt to staffing needs, including floating to other units.
- Proficiently use computers and telecommunication tools, including electronic medical records.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
Experience and Education
- Minimum one year recent ICU or critical care experience or completion of a KP Critical Care Training Program within the past 12 months.
- High School Diploma/GED or higher, with RN program completion and required clinical hours or equivalent experience.
Licenses and Certifications
- California RN License
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Additional Requirements
- Knowledge of RN scope of practice and commitment to service orientation.
- Effective communication skills in English and good interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Critical Care course completion preferred.
