Job summary

University of Chicago Medicine's Burn ICU in Hyde Park is seeking a Staff Nurse (RN) for a 0.9 FTE night shift. This 100% onsite role supports adult and pediatric burn patients in a dedicated ICU setting. The RN will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in collaboration with the care team.

Requirements include NLN-accredited nursing education, an Illinois RN license, and BLS certification. ADN graduates are encouraged to pursue BSN within 30 months with tuition support; BSN

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an NLN-accredited School of Nursing.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN degree or higher preferred.
  • Current Illinois RN license
  • BLS from the American Heart Association
  • ADN nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six to nine months of hire and complete BSN within 30 months with 100% tuition reimbursement.

  • Utilizes appropriate assessment skills to determine patient needs.
  • Develops a plan of care for those patients whose needs do not require the expertise of a Case Manager or collaborates with the Case Manager to develop a plan of care for specified patients.
  • Manages & collaborates with the Case Manager to develop a plan of care for specified patients.
  • Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned by the Care Center Director or the Patient Care Manager.
  • Provides support to peers by assisting as needed, being a resource person, and working as a team member.
  • Attends continuing education programs and participates in program evaluation.

Education

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, University of Chicago Medicine, as a Staff Nurse (RN) in the Burn ICU department at our Hyde Park campus. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

You will have the ability to work with physicians who are constantly pushing the bounds of possibility forward, conducting groundbreaking research and providing lifesaving, personalized patient care. Our Burn Center is accredited by the American College of Surgeons and the American Burn Association. We have an eight-bed intensive care unit (ICU) dedicated to adult and pediatric burn patients. The Burn Center addresses all aspects of burns from transport to acute care to post-burn rehabilitation.

A staff nurse is a registered professional nurse (RN) who manages patient-centered care that is outcome-directed. Patient-centered care principles and professional nursing practice standards provide the foundation for the nurse to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care provided. The staff nurse assumes the primary responsibility and accountability for all patient care personally provided and that provided by those directly under her/his supervision.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an NLN-accredited School of Nursing.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN degree or higher preferred.
    • Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire, and make progress toward and complete their BSN degree within 30 months. ADN nurses receive 100% tuition reimbursement towards a BSN degree from an accredited program.
  • Current Illinois RN license
  • BLS from the American Heart Association

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
