UChicago Medicine is seeking a Staff Nurse for the 3 CN General Observation-Surgical unit at the Hyde Park campus. This 0.6 FTE, onsite position serves the greater Chicagoland area and supports multidisciplinary team care on a fast-paced surgical unit.

Responsibilities include patient assessment, care planning, and collaboration with Case Management, with opportunities for professional growth and adherence to evidence-based practices. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an NLN-accredited School of Nursing.
  • ADN required; BSN degree or higher preferred.
  • Current Illinois RN license. ADN nurses must enroll in BSN within 6–9 months and progress toward BSN within 30 months with 100% tuition reimbursement.
  • BLS from American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes assessment skills to determine patient needs.
  • Develops care plans for patients; collaborates with Case Manager as needed.
  • Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned.
  • Provides peer support and teamwork.
  • Participates in development/attainment of goals and objectives.
  • Uses clinical pathways and plans of care.

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, University of Chicago Medicine, as a Staff Nurse in the 3 CN General Observation-Surgical department at our Hyde Park campus. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

This department provides care for Multispecialty surgery patients (plastics, ENT, Colorectal, General Surgery), Trauma Patients, Telemetry monitored and 24-48hr Observation Patients. You will have the ability to work with physicians that are constantly pushing the bounds of possibility forward, conducting groundbreaking research and providing lifesaving, personalized patient care.

A staff nurse is a registered professional nurse (RN) who manages patient centered care that is outcome directed. Patient centered care principles and professional nursing practice standards provide the foundation for the nurse to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care provided. The staff nurse assumes the primary responsibility and accountability for all patient care personally provided and that provided by those directly under her/his supervision.

Essential Job Functions
  • Utilizes appropriate assessment skills to determine patient needs.
  • Develops a plan of care for those patients whose needs do not require the expertise of a Case Manager or collaborates with the Case Manager to develop a plan of care for specified patients.
  • Manager or collaborates with the Case Manager to develop a plan of care for specified patients.
  • Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned by Care Center Director or Patient Care Manager.
  • Provides support to peers by assisting as needed, being a resource person and working as a team member.
  • Assists Care Center in development/attainment of goals and objectives.
  • Uses clinical pathways and/or plans of care incorporating standards of practice.
  • Assess own need for professional growth and development and seeks appropriate resources to meeting needs.
  • Attends continuing education programs and participates in program evaluation.
Required Qualifications
  • Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN degree or higher preferred.
  • Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire, and make progress toward and complete their BSN degree within 30 months. ADN nurses receive 100% tuition reimbursement towards a BSN degree from an accredited program.
  • Current Illinois RN license
  • BLS from American Heart Association

Compensation & Benefits Overview

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
