Children's of Alabama seeks a registered nurse in the Acute Care Unit at the Main Campus Harbert Tower. The role involves direct patient care in a 50-bed medical-surgical unit, with 12-hour day/evening shifts and weekend coverage as needed.

The staff nurse provides assessment, interventions, and reassessments with minimal supervision, while planning, educating, and evaluating care for patients and caregivers. AASN and Alabama RN licensure are required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Current Alabama RN license.
• Current BLS certification.
• Equivalent qualifications include AL NLC Multi State and Basic Life Support

Work schedule will be Full-time on the Day Evening Shift, Mon-Fri, varying days, every other weekend.

Summary:

The staff nurse is a professional nurse who, with minimal supervision, is responsible for providing nursing care to patients. Patient care includes assessment, interventions, and reassessments of the patient. The nurse is also responsible for planning, implementing, educating, and evaluating care of patients/caregivers.

Education

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Experience

Licensures, Certifications, and/or Registries

• Current RN license in the State of Alabama.
• Current BLS certification.

Credentials with Equivalent Qualifications:

Essential:

• Registered Nurse AL Single State or any of the following equivalent qualifications below:
• Registered Nurse AL NLC Multi State
• Registered Nurse Non-AL NLC Multi State
• Basic Life Support

The Acute Care Unit (ACU) is a 50-bed medical surgical unit that provides care for patients of various ages and diagnoses. Most ACU patients are admitted under the care of Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) physicians. Common diagnoses include asthma exacerbation, bronchiolitis/RSV, pneumonia, cellulitis/abscess, fever in neonates, dehydration, gastroenteritis, and post-operative care for tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy or bilateral myringotomy tube placement. The average length of stay for our patients is approximately two days.

Nurses on ACU have the opportunity to develop and refine a wide range of clinical skills, including IV placement, NG tube insertion, CVL care, gastrostomy tube care, and medication administration. We take pride in delivering expert, compassionate care, helping our patients achieve optimal outcomes in a supportive and dynamic environment.
