Job summary

Gateway School District is seeking a Staff Nurse to support the school health program and ensure student wellbeing. The nurse will work under the direction of the School Nurse to provide care, maintain confidential records, and assist with daily health services for all students.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Confirm emergency contact information is up to date in the Student Information System.
• Administer first aid and attend to illnesses in accordance with district policy.
• Dispense medication under the direction of the school physician and with nurse approval.
• Monitor health impairments as directed by the School Nurse.
• Initiate accident reports and notify School Nurse and Administration.
• Maintain current student health records and update health data as needed.
• Assist with health screenings (auditory/visual, scoliosis, pediculosis, growth measurements).
• Support storage and inventory of equipment and supplies as directed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by School Nurse, School Physician, or Building Administrator.

Goals

A Staff Nurse works under the direction of the School Nurse to assist the school nurse in providing care and maintaining records for all students in the school, while adhering to strict confidentiality statues. A Staff Nurse is a paraprofessional position as defined by the Department of Education, Bureau of Certification CSPG No. 107, and assists the District's Health Services Staff in performing those duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Confirm emergency contact information is on file in the District's Student Information Management System (Skyward Qmlativ), and that information is up to date
• Administers first aid and serves cases of illness in compliance with Policy and Standing Orders
• Dispenses medication according to District policy and procedures as defined and directed by the school physician and with the approval of the School Nurse
• Performs required monitoring of various health impairments as directed by the School Nurse in proper and timely manner
• Initiates accident reports where appropriate, notified School Nurse and Administration, and files such reports according to standard procedure
• Initiates and maintains student health records in a current and timely manner, and alerts the School Nurse to any known or potential problems. Data shall include information from physical, dental, and immunization forms, and any known changes in health status.
• Assists as directed by the School Nurse or School Physician with auditory/visual screening, scoliosis screening, pediculosis screening, and student height and weight growth screenings
• Assists the School Nurse/Principal with the care, storage, and inventory of equipment as supplies
• Performs other related duties as may be directed by the School Nurse, Supervisor of Pupil Services, School Physician/Dentist, or Building Administrator
