Job summary

Rivian in California (Palo Alto) is seeking a Staff Network Engineer to design, implement, and support secure, scalable enterprise and data center networks. This hands-on role blends architecture with operations, focusing on network security, routing, switching, DNS, and load balancing across a large, complex environment.

You will mentor engineers, lead design decisions, and participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation while collaborating with cybersecurity, cloud, and manufacturing teams to deliver

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field.
• 10+ years of network engineering experience in large environments.
• Hands-on with next-gen firewalls (Palo Alto) and VPN tech.
• Strong knowledge of BGP, VXLANs, VRFs, DNS, and TCP/IP.
• Experience with F5 load balancing and cloud/hybrid connectivity.
• IaC and scripting for automation and observability.
• Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration.
• Ability to lead complex technical work independently.

Responsibilities

• Drive enterprise and data center network architecture and design.
• Design, implement, and support security infrastructure and VPNs.
• Troubleshoot routing, switching, and high-availability solutions.
• Support DNS, load balancing, SSL/TLS, and application traffic flows.
• Collaborate across cybersecurity, cloud, and manufacturing teams.
• Create architecture diagrams, designs, and operational docs.
• Provide 24x7 on-call support and incident response.
• Mentor engineers and advance automation and observability.
